Once again, I don't consider them traitors, and party affiliation from back then is a moot point. The southern states were more in keeping with the constitution and our founding, than the north.
Why wouldn't you consider the north traitors? They violated the constitution by invading sovereign states exercising their constitutional right to secession.
That has nothing to do with it. As we've seen most recently, claiming one party or another doesn't mean that one acts, legislates, or votes any different. I think the term RINO comes to mind.
