Zephaniah 1:2-7
2 “I will sweep away everything from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord. 3 “I will sweep away both man and beast; I will sweep away the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea— and the idols that cause the wicked to stumble.”
“When I destroy all mankind on the face of the earth,” declares the Lord, 4 “I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place, the very names of the idolatrous priests— 5 those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the Lord and who also swear by Molek, 6 those who turn back from following the Lord and neither seek the Lord nor inquire of him.”
7 Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near. The Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated those he has invited.
Starry host = alien fakery? Science?
And Astrology
There are some astrologers that use them as signs as God intended. Gen 1:14. Anyone who uses it, or anything else, to denigrate either free will or God's grace is blind. I have a close friend who is deeply Christian and studies astrology. He warned me about 2020 for years, with solid predictions about violence, and an upcoming economic collapse.
Isaiah 47: 11-14 11 Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.
12 “Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. 13 All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. 14 Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame.
I personally interpret that as instructions not to over- rely on astrologers, which we could also say applies to any material science. But Luke 21:25 implies that studying the stars will allow one to see the signs. There's also the magi, who were not led astray by following the star. A person who surrenders their discernment to an astrologer is just as foolish as one who surrenders it to a doctor; that doesn't mean one shouldn't observe, nor that they should fail to use the talents that one has been given. All things in moderation, and of course under God. This friend believes that God gave him a talent for reading heavenly signs, and I have seen nothing in his life to indicate otherwise. Blessings.
