The "California poppy" in some tint of a PMS (Pantone Matching System) red is an example of what uninformed people have been calling "watermarks" since the beginning of the age of desktop publishing. All it is, is a faint image printed at the same time the text is printed. Any printer can do it, whereas making paper with real watermarks is much more specialized.
