Nobody wears a mask properly. I observe people every day; they finger their mask; they hitch it up and pull it down because it's uncomfortable and/or steams up their glasses. They wear masks that are clearly made from unsuitable material. They wear N95 masks that have a one-way valve so that everything they breathe out bypasses the filter material. They wear the mask loosely so it does nothing useful. They wear a mask for far too long. In short, nobody is trained in the proper use of a mask - apart from hospital personnel. But they are trained from the point of view of avoiding transfer of bodily fluids - not viruses.
Even if there existed an appropriate mask that could be worn properly, it wouldn't work because the virus can easily enter via the eyes. So everyone must also wear goggles? The whole idea is simply impractical. Everyone is ignoring the science and logic but why?
The science: the size of a virion compared with the size of the threads and holes in a mask is such that wearing a mask makes as much sense as using a chain-link fence to keep mosquitos out. The virion is infinitesimally small. Unimaginably small. Smaller than a wavelength of visible light. That's not as small as an oxygen molecule but it's really, really, really small. Too small to be seen even with the best optical microscope. The only way to "see" a coronavirus is by reflecting x-ray radiation off it; but that kills it instantly. So we can never, ever observe a live coronavirus. Not with current technology, anyway.
