Ram for sure 32gb to 64gb Processor u want i7 4core or 8core model
There are solid m1 machines out there but we haven’t tested any with our design teams yet since they already have what they need.
Video card prob not a huge deal since ur not using premiere or some video editing software ... that’s where that tends to be a bigger deal. Splurge for one if u can, but not necessary.
There are a few options ....
The Mac Pro is the ultra expensive ($6k) beast ... could be overkill since ur not editing video or 3D modeling but they also are smoking and will stand test of time. Only go this route if Money isn’t a big issue
Next, are the 27in iMacs and 16inMacBook pros, which have a nice ultra fancy apple display built in ... so if u don’t already have a nice display then iMac may be something to consider. MacBook Pro you would likely be wanting to plug into an existing monitor and only get one if U need or want the portability of a laptop... make no mistake their laptops are just as beefy on specs but of course carry a price tag. An iMac or laptop for what ur prob needing will run u into the multiple thousands easy stil
Then comes the Mac mini desktop. This is gonna be the cheaper option, still gonna run you around 3000, but they can be spec’d out to do some heavy lifting.
A large portion of our design folks use tricked out Mac mini’s ... primarily the video editors and audio engineers use different configs of the Mac Pro, and some of the digital content creators (similar to what ur doing prob, but they aren’t doing gigantic maps but still doing 500pg hi quality catalogues) tend to use Mac mini’s or iMacs. However again money isn’t a concern, our company is very forward thinking with IT resources.
Good luck !!
