I think of it like a strategy game like Chess or the Game of Go. How do you dominate the board? Control your opposition. Control their moves. How do you do that? You leave traps that they have to defuse. If they don't, they'll suffer catastrophic losses. They must answer your moves.
For example, in Chess there are strategies of using their own king or queen against them. To protect those pieces they are forced to sacrifice their rooks, knights and others. You keep them on the run and taking hits just to survive.
In Go this strategy is called "Gotei" and this is when you cause your opponent to have to spend moves avoiding catastophic losses while you are free to do whatever the f you want. They can't ignore those moves. To do so would be the end of the game. They simply MUST make the moves to keep the game going and hope they get lucky and you make a mistake. (Seldom works against a superior player)
Once the board is set up where you have complete control over their moves the game is lost. They will be running around trying to put out fires until eventually they can't keep up. If they are very inexperienced player they may not even realize it's already over and keep playing anyway.
A really strong player can command the board so well that they completely control their opponents future moves. There is no escape at that point. You may not realize it but they're telling you where you play next. You have no choice at that point. All you can do is give up or keep the game going for as long as possible.
This audit is an example of that. The DS must take the bait. They can't cut their losses on this. This means the Patriot's have total command of the board. They must now follow the script and play the moves that are already decided.
Yup. Most likely.

Wow... thanks for that!
Reminds me of “The Fabian Strategy”
