So in Indiana, Holcomb removed the mask mandate, but left it in place for schools (like so many states).
Both my girls go to a Christian school, They don't have to wear masks in the classes, only in halls, (INVISIBLE DESK SHIELDS), classic stupidity. Most of the teachers only wear when they absolutely have to. Lots of sympathy for the nurse, she's trying to protect the kids, but faculty and staff are all pretty based. Basically, its awkward and difficult for everyone.
IMO the problem is, if someone complains then the school could lose accredidation. The enemy would also like to shut down another private school, so keeping a low profile is important. Say what you will, but it has been a good school that teaches well and has good values, it is still important to keep them going.
So anyways, my oldest wears the mask on her ear and only puts it on when told. youngest takes it out of her pocket when someone mentions, acts to put it on, then when out of sight pockets it again. This has been going on for some time. Finally, a teacher tells the youngest she will get detention if she doesn't start wearing it properly. She came home and told me about it. By this time she's been told to put it on... just asked her. 3-4 times a day since ....late february?
I told her I'm proud of her respectful rebellion (no yelling, just disobedience). I also told her, look, we can write a petition for your school, cite MIT, Stanford, multiple CDC articles, lots of things to prove masks are useless and harmful. HOWEVER, until you do this, if you get detention, you know it is policy so you'll have to take your lumps. She said she understood. I told her I'd be proud of her to take the consequences of her actions, and I'd take her out to dinner after she "served her time".
So, two days ago she got caught by the nurse (been cracking down this week). Long story short, DETENTION. She was bummed, but I reminded her she hadn't taken the time to do the petition, and she wouldn't get in trouble from us.
Fast forward to today. She still hasn't been told when, or given a card or notice of when she'll serve her detention. This afternoon, the above letter arrived.
The school board (on its own afaik) decided enough was enough. Many based parents. I'm sure several called in (I've seen Q stickers in the parking lot at b-ball games).
Thought this was important enough to share and I'm proud of the faculty/staff who did this.
Carry on.
First, mucho kudos in the biggest way possible of how you have raised your daughters and have handled the consequences of social disobedience. I'm now a grandpa and wish I would have handled some of this stuff differently 15-20 years ago. 2nd; we live in Indiana and understand all of what you are saying. We live "away" and have been able to stock, store, go to small markets etc...to virtually avoid the masks since the onset. We were kicked out of Kroger a while back and a couple other places. BUT, it's just us 2. We work in ideal conditions...we know how blessed we are not to have to deal with this w/ kids, work, police, medical etc. It's rough for many. My wife and I pray every night, intentionally, for those that are in tougher gigs. Anyway, so happy to read about others standing up, and schools like this hanging in there. We'll be here on the other side of this & so will you. Good luck.
Thank you so much for your words. It is hard to be law abiding in these times, and then to teach the young proper respect with the insanity going on, so close to the precipice. The girls are 17 and 14, and we don't hide much of what is going on from them, so extra frustrating for them.
I did warn them not to look up Adrenochrome or watch the movies (they don't need more nightmares), and we told them not to look up the leaked Hunter Biden pics. Other than that they're up to speed.
We can't wait for the rallies to start again, girls want me to get them new MAGA hats. :)
