As a junior doc this was interesting, and I agree that Lyme is way more widespread than is routinely taught, however I am confused as to how Lyme gets misdiagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis when to diagnose MS, you need an MRI showing demyelinating plaques separated by space and time.
A close friend of mine developed bells palsy after being diagnosed with lymes. A year of electrical facial stim and lots of meds, he is much better now but it was pretty scary. Also a coworker woke up one day with no motor control of his legs, was put in the hospital and test after test was run. After a month they diagnosed him with MS. I asked if they ever tested him for lymes but the answer was no. To this day I still believe his issues were due to lymes. Little bastards are everywhere in the North east. Here is a great documentary called "under our skin" if you care to watch it. https://youtu.be/2JgR_Jfbhv8
I was misdiagnosed with MS and I have neurological Lyme and Bartonella. I have brain lesions, Lyme causes them. There are many, many cases of people with Lyme being misdiagnosed with MS, there’s a surfer who has a Ted Talk about his misdiagnosis. There have been studies done where Lyme bacteria was found in the brains of MS patients at autopsy.
