Hospitals (and the entire healthcare system) have a misalignment of incentives. While they might need their beds for new patients, every day you don't get better the hospital is cashing in.

Similar with higher education actually. They eventually want you to graduate, get rich and donate large sums of money. But every semester you don't graduate they are cashing in.
