There's a group of 8,000 kids all in different timezones. These 8,000 kids all have a cumulative average bed time. Their average bedtime is 7:30pm. Assume going to bed later is better. 2 of the 8,000 kids who are still up at 8:00pm (past the average bed time) get forced to go to bed at exactly 8:00pm rather than continuing to staying up even later. The parents tell the other 7,998 kids that they have to go sit in the corner in time-out for 2 minutes (which ends up being over an hour), drink experimental coolaid, and wear a dunce cap, otherwise a 3rd child of the 8,000 who is still up at 8:00pm will be forced to go to bed at 8:00pm.
