I had the unfortunate honor of performing it, it did indeed work, and prevented a car accident.

I also do not condone violence, but having seen this performed appropriately twice, I can safely say there is indeed a time and place to shock someone out of hysterics (not just women, it happens to men too).

As you wisely noted, YMMV, and you should not complain if there are consequences. Correct, it does not work on everyone.
