My work has implemented a policy where only vaccinated employees can remove their masks. If you choose not to declare your vaccination status, or declare that you're unvaxed then you have to continue wearing the mask (and possibly stand out among the crowd), or face disciplinary action - possibly including termination.
My question is: do I wait it out, or risk speaking up and possibly losing my job? I don't want to lie about my status or circumvent the policy and feel like I'm watching over my shoulder at all times. I don't want to take part in the lies anymore and I shouldn't have to feel ostracized for that. I know AFLD has resources, but I think I should talk to someone within the company first.
I don't have tons of people I can talk to about this IRL, so I'm really hoping I can get some helpful words here.
I feel like even if you get around it legally, they may fire you for different reasons down the line. Start looking for another job. Worst case scenario you end up homeless. Would you take the jab to avoid that? My answer is no. Not trying to discourage but not taking it is all that matters. It's about more than just the risk of the vaccine. This is about freedom and human dignity. That's what the mask were about. We can't give in. No matter what.
Not sure the size of your company, but from my prior experiences once you show backbone you’ll be a target of sorts, as previous comment says. If you’re willing to fight if things go south, it’d be worth having a call with an attorney prior to know anything you should avoid stating, etc. If you believe we’re at war you should prepare for the battle.
