The 'Desk' is really not gone just moved to the 'News' section as it says. Everything that posted on Desk can be found under News.

My guess is too many people were sitting on desk and just refreshing constantly to get the latest. If Miller is responding, then this is a messaging/marketing thing - maximizing the site from a media perspective. I wouldn't read anything more into it than that.
