He produced Sully? A fictional story about a fictional event. An aircraft landing in the Hudson River. An approach speed of 140 MPH with 2 engines hung on the wings. The plane hits the water and the engines don’t break from the pylons in fact, one engine’s cowling was still intact. Think logically, the two engines would act as massive breaks until either the engine broke off or the wing failed.
Steve Mnuchin is NOT - nor has he ever been - an Executive Director or even a plain ole Director in the movie biz. Mnuchin has been an Executive PRODUCER on many movies, which has zippo to do with "directing." I would know b/c I used to be an Associate Producer and worked in horrid Hollywood (I fled & changed careers after quickly realizing how nasty of an industry it is).
An Executive Producer's function is to raise the money for film/TV projects, make the deals, and crack the whip when needed to keep everything running on time and on budget. The Director "runs the show" on set and directs the actors and frames the shots - not the Exec. Producer.
This person is right, Executive Producers (in film) are typically the film investors or , in t.v., the "suits" at a studio. Basically, the head of the hierarchical chain... the ones who would have final say on the product. Usually Directors and Show Runners have to answer to them as it's their money funding the project.
The term "Producer" often works as a catch-all title for many jobs in the film industry and can loosely be attributed to anyone who headed up the logistical challenge of putting a project together from start to finish...
However..."Producers" typically have a specialization and still aren't the main organizer of the project... for example the Post-Production Producer (who just oversees editing, color, effects, etc...) can often just be credited as a "Producer."
The "Real Producer" of a film or show is the person credited with the "Produced By" credit which is different than a "Producer" credit. The "Produced By" person is the one who basically shouldered the entire organizational and logistical load of the project... budget, schedule, paperwork.... etc. This person may informally be called the "Line Producer."
Co-Producer and Associate Producers are often vanity titles given out for nepotistic resume building but those titles may SOMETIMES involve a "junior" amount of responsibilities to either a "Producer" or the "Line Producer."
I know this system is retarded but thats the way it is in the Entertainment industry.
There are different types of "producers" - such as Executive Producers, Line Producers, Associate Producers, etc. Your definition there lumps the duties across all these different types of producers into a single description.
Mnuchin was an Executive Producer - that's the only job description that's relevant to the conversation. And again, he was NOT an "Executive Director" as the OP claimed in the title of this post and based the whole thread on that misinformation.
In reality an XPs role can vary widely, from securing financing, to simply providing financing, to having a more hands-on role. Watch any credit roll and see how many XPs there are on some projects.
I had recalled hearing this before.
Wow, that was a ton of movies.

He produced Mad Max: Fury Road as well as a ton of other movies you've probably seen. Dude has an impressive film career.

"Sully" Exec. Producer - which means Mnuchin funded a movie starring HANX and literally PAID that pedo!
FALSE CLAIM IN THREAD TITLE.
