Animals have the same exposure to toxins in the air and water that we do.

Toxins increase the risk, not cause it. More likely we all have a bit of cancer naturally from random malfunctions in cells but it doesn't become "cancer" unless it manages to replicate faster than our immune system can kill it off before we notice it.
