Lincoln wasn’t on the ballot in 10 Southern states because of his views on the economic structuring of the South, yet he was decreed the presidential victor with ‘overwhelming’ support from the entire country. I ask you, how is that possible for him to win and get the popular vote and become president of the USA if the South didn’t vote for him? That alone would be enough for a war, which it was. Does this at all sound similar to our modern predicament?
Forgive my ignorance, but I’m Canadian and don’t know all the ins and outs of all of American history. And you can’t really trust history books anyway. Is Lincoln considered not to have been a good president then?
Some things he did were controversial. For instance, he suspended habeas corpus and threw journalists he didn't like in prison.
He was a strong man who held the union together by force. Most people consider him to be a good president because he saved the union. Those who have read more about how he saved the union see flaws.
Exactly this. Love him or hate him he helped save the Union but no man is perfect. The left would have you believe he is apex good when the reality is he was a normal dude who good calls and bad ones. The micro aggressions leading up to open conflict make for particularly interesting reading. Similar events to what’s happening today.
Thank you, I appreciate you sharing that.
