My eldest daughter went to Walmart today and while there had noticed many of the shelves were empty. She had worked many years for Walmart (She is a Lowes employee now) and knew a lot of the employees. She asked about the empty shelves and was told that the stock was in the back and would not be put out. Okay, my daughter thought this was kind of strange so I am asking if anyone else had noticed something up with Walmart?

I've noticed the empty shelves, but long before COVID-19 was a thing. My guess has always been that they've gone to a just-in-time inventory system. One time I wanted an item and there was only one left. It was pretty beat up, so I passed on it and figured I'd get it the next time I went there. Well, that one beat-up item sat there for several weeks until someone must have finally bought it. It was gone and the stock for that item was replenished.
Usually, though, companies that have a just-in-time system will reorder an item once there are only a couple of items left. I think Walmart waits until it's completely out before reordering. It's probably a ploy to make you buy things before you really need them when you only see a couple left. You buy it out of fear you'll have to wait weeks to get it.
As OP noted, the shelves have been rather bare through the plandemic up until just the last week or so. Items that I haven't been able to get for months were all suddenly available in quantity.
