I believe it is another humanlike group. Not quite us. A family bloodline of flood survivors. I also think we would consider them alien. I believe they inhabit a giant base in Antarctica. They Are probably the pyramid builders, the ancient bloodthirsty gods spoken of across the planet in all countries. The Mayan called them kulkulkan, Greeks called them gods, Egypt considered them gods. Many required blood sacrifice, and we kept that practice even after the flood, weaving it into many religions.

I think they saw the flood coming and dug into bunkers, and let us drown. So humans rebuilt and they popped in here and there to control direction, hide Old ancient tech when discovered, set a system of human elites to modify everything we do.

These ancients want to be worshipped again and are getting ready to walk the earth and be seen. They are not us, we would call them demons, the devil, they are blood thirsty monsters.

Possibly an entire family that has hidden for centuries and called world leaders to meetings in Antarctica to terrify and threaten.

Definitely not us, definitely in control.
