Illegal immigration is hard to solve because we generally are humane, kind people. I teach in a school that is about 75 percent Hispanic. Each year, several of my students express concern about a parent or family member getting deported. Many of them are children of immigrants who came here illegally. They kids were born here. They grow up here in a kind of limbo. They aren’t true Mexicans anymore. If they go to Mexico, they don’t feel like they fit in there. Some of them prefer English over Spanish now. They aren’t fully integrated into American culture, but they don’t belong in their parents’ culture.
The ones who weren’t born here live in fear. They can’t get driver’s licenses. They will have to enter the work force using fake IDs, stolen social security numbers, etc. They have to deal in a cash-only underground economy. It’s a weird life.
They only fix is amnesty, with the proviso that they can’t vote for five years afterward. That would give them time to get established, become small business owners or employees of a company, and join the ranks of taxpayers. That alone might turn them into conservatives. They generally are Christian/Catholic and oppose abortion. That alone might draw them into the ranks of Republicans, if we would change our tune on amnesty.
Amen to that. There's probably at least a million between the ones they've caught/turned themselves in and the gotaways. It's a disgrace. All coming for the free shit my taxes pay for.
