VP of Tech for an energy service company here. 100% agree with you, this is the homeowners' fault. As I said on another thread, in the industry we call this "Demand Response", and normally you get paid for it. It's actually a very mutually-beneficial program for industrial companies. I would not advise residential customers to do this however.
So for the homeowners to turn around and belly-ache about smart thermostats is uneducated at best, and self-serving+untruthful at worst.
I will never understand people who play lottery type games. Why would ANYONE give up the freedom to control their own thermostat for the equivalent of a $1 lottery ticket? It's beyond sheep mentality. It's something else.
