After some consideration and bathroom thinking, I've come to the conclusion that the best thing to do once we take back our country is to implement nation wide election reform. I'm not talking about what's going on now, I mean an amendment or two that creates a new (or repurposed) system to prevent tyranny of the "majority" or minority, as well as prevent the ignorant masses from dragging the rest of us down with them if this ever happens again.
Personally, I think that not only should we have to pass a test and get a license of sorts to vote (just like a driving, hunting, teaching, medical license, etc.) That has to be renewed every year, but we also should do away with ANY form of popular vote. I'm partial to the old Georgia style elections where every county was assigned a number of votes for every election. Of course it was biased heavily towards rural counties, so in the name of fairness, I'd suggest it be repurposed and modified so that it's similar to the electoral college, but the numbers are proportioned in such a manner than it's impossible for any 3 or 4 counties to control an entire state. Perhaps put a limit on the amount of votes a single county can get?
Another option I've considered is to simply have an amendment that makes it so that, once a city or counties population goes over a certain amount, say a million, it's no longer part of the state and instead receives status similar to DC in that it's an independent territory with no representatives, but a number of electoral votes. Of course that presents it's own problem, so I think the repurposed Georgia election system would be the better option of the two I've thought of.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
How about adding........if you don't participate in our income tax system, you have not earned the right to vote. Why? You have no skin in the game.
VERY good point. People who subsist off of welfare programs and pay no taxes shouldn't have the right to vote and drag the rest of us down with them.
