Put in a couple of window units. They can’t control them. Problem solved.

true... or better yet, go buy a "dumb" thermostat. leave the "smart" one on so the electric company thinks you still use it.

and many HOA's forbid window units...

(the same people who use smart thermostats live in HOA controlled areas.)
