There were several episodes of his show where he went on animal hunts with locals and fully participated in any associated practices/rituals as well as eating anything they ate. I know some tribes will eat freshly harvested raw organs and have certain spiritual beliefs about the blood. Could've been that. Would have to match the date this selfie was taken with his filming schedule.
