In my opinion this is the problem with private health care. I understand that profit needs to be the motive to innovate, but the DRIVING force needs to be health and wellbeing, NOT shareholder pockets.
I know a guy who works at a mid level health industry job (he has a doctorate and big contracts, so by "mid level" I mean literally half way to the top which is the billionaires.
He makes like half a million dollars a year and gets sports cars and 5 star hotels wherever he goes. I get it... you gotta take care of the best and brightest. However, when simple scans cost thousands of dollars you have to ask yourself if you're really paying for innovation or an industry designed to MAKE MONEY and serve the investors and business people like every other job.
This creates the ironic problem of not acutally solving any medical problems so that the medical industry itself stays afloat. It's so bizarre.

And then there are the pharmaceutical reps/salesperson who make BIG bucks pushing the products to the docs/healthcare providers.
It's ALL a money-grabbing racket in which the always-ailing patient is a means to industry professionals' financial ends.
