Sounds (accidental pun, there) like you have an enviable collection! When I was a kid, one of the radio stations played many of the old vintage shows and Lights Out was my favorite, followed by, The Shadow. 30,000 @ 1hr/ show = 3.4 years nonstop. You've got a lot of good listening ahead!
Some people say I'll never listen to my entire collection and wonder why I have it all. My reason is that I want to have a choice. Anytime I wish, I can hear Fibber McGee open that closet or hear Mel Blanc make the noises of Jack Benny's Maxwell.
I've listened to old radio so much that I've got as much memorized as people who lived back then. I can quote show openings and entire commercials.
I don't remember hearing it live, but "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" was still on the air until around 1960. It was one of the last. Of course, I have every existing episode and have listened to a lot of them.
Back in the early 70s, WPTF-AM in Raleigh, NC would play OTR shows each night, Monday thru Thursday, and big band records on Friday night. One of them was The Shadow.
I'll bet. Tom was kind of out there, definitely one of a kind. He never did marry or have kids.
And rather than send you another message, I'll just remark here; as far as old radio shows, I'm gonna have to go with, Lights Out with Arch Oboler. ;)
I have all of those, but I haven't listened to them yet. I have over 30,000 old-time radio shows.
