They mention in the article that he owns property on lakes in Tahoe and I think Palo Alto or somewhere else in California as well as Hawaiian property. They question whether or not he was in Couer D'Alene in order to buy property and develop it and possibly even to do so in order to bring a different demographic to one of the most conservative christian (and affluently so) places in the US since he has done similar manipulating of demographics or voting through his predatory election schemes. I think the point about the meetup is likely a big reason no one else was noticing.
