How in the hell do they know which Covid “variant” people have?

It’s my understanding that Covid tests are total shit and the Covid virus has never been isolated. Has anyone explained how a Covid test can tell which “variant” someone has? I think it’s all bullshit but they aren’t even trying to make sense anymore.

They don’t!!! It is straight up lies! Did you even know they even claim an Epsilon variant. That one was just kind of referenced in passing as they went on about the Lambda variant. They seem to really like that one.
