I’ve been lurking for a while and finally bit the bullet and made an account. I figure I’m on a list somewhere for even lurking the site so why not at this point.
Anyway my question is this. Does anyone store food long term? Was going through our survival stock and noticed a lot of dried rice, beans etc say use by “xx/2021”.
I know these stay safe quite a while after these dates if stored in gallon buckets (I think?), but what about if they are just stored in the bags they came in? All still sealed, etc. Mixed reviews online 🤷🏼♀️
That’d be my luck to cook hubby expired food in a shtf scenario 🤦🏼♀️
I think if you keep out insects and prevent them from laying eggs in your food (I've had this happen with rice) then it is pretty much good for however long you want. An airtight bucket, or mylar sealed bags are good options. I use both - mylar bags inside sealable buckets
