Rodney Smith is the guy who started this a couple of years ago. He would mow a lawn and take a selfie with the homeowner and post it to twitter. He did this for free for elderly, disabled, vets, single moms, etc. Eventually people were interested in what he was doing and the 50-yard challenge was born. I followed & liked him the whole summer and then I dumped Twitter because Jack, so I am happy to see he has continued his mission. He is the real deal as far as I can tell. BTW, the program is US-wide, not just AL.
Here's an ordinary guy with an ordinary lawn mower who asked the man in the mirror what he could do to help and the results have been extraordinary.
