Yes, that's what vaccines do; they encourage viruses to mutate.
A virus almost never mutates to become deadlier. Naturally, the deadlier strains kill their hosts faster and don't have the opportunity to spread. The strains which are weaker and more transmissible leave more people alive to spread so they become the dominant strain.
The deadliest COVID variant was the first one out the gate. Every mutation since then has been more contagious and less deadly, which is exactly what we'd expect.
The "goal" of any virus is just to propagate, and it does that most effectively by keeping its hosts alive.
When they get to omega I'm running for the jab.
