Londre Sylvester, 31, had just been released from the Cook County Jail on Saturday night when he was ambushed by gunmen in two separate vehicles across the street from the facility, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune.

It was unclear how many times he was shot, but police said he had as many as 64 bullet wounds to his head and other parts of his body. Cops canvassing the area found 59 shell casings at the scene.

Sylvester was taken to a hospital after the shooting but did not survive. The shooters fled the scene and remained at large Monday.
