Did you link to the wrong page? This page only says that they aren’t extending the emergency authorization request for this type of test when December comes around.
It doesn’t appear to be a retraction, just a decision not to extend the emergency use for a third year. I also can’t find anything on this page suggesting it has anything to do with the test being unable to differentiate between COVID and the flu.
It does say that this test isn’t designed to detect the flu, and that future COVID tests should also have the ability to detect the flu to make testing for both easier. But it’s because the current test can’t look for the flu, and they just want to combine the flu and COVID detection for the next generation of tests.
The request is that labs "consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses" this implies that the current method cannot do either of those things. Seems carefully worded so It is open to interpretation and not an outright admission by them that the current method can't differentiate.
The way I’m reading it, it’s not implying that it can’t differentiate, it’s saying that it can’t detect the flu because it wasn’t designed to, and they want to add that functionality for future tests.
It’s essentially a suggestion for an upgrade to the test. Suggesting that your next car have a built-in GPS system for road navigation isn’t the same thing as recalling a car because it doesn’t have GPS navigation if it was never designed for or sold with one.
It is definitely worded in such a way as to be open to interpretation. But I agree it is not a clear admission by them that the current test cannot differentiate..

No, it's pretty endemic of the bullshit being posted here.
That page says NOTHING about what the title claims.
FURTHER... independent research ALSO does not vet his claims.
And the fucking mods won't ever take it down.
Pretty much a microcosm of the real world.
