The way I’m reading it, it’s not implying that it can’t differentiate, it’s saying that it can’t detect the flu because it wasn’t designed to, and they want to add that functionality for future tests.
It’s essentially a suggestion for an upgrade to the test. Suggesting that your next car have a built-in GPS system for road navigation isn’t the same thing as recalling a car because it doesn’t have GPS navigation if it was never designed for or sold with one.
It is definitely worded in such a way as to be open to interpretation. But I agree it is not a clear admission by them that the current test cannot differentiate..
