It's programmed into their DNA, easy to spot in online arguments when they, needing to always be "objectively right" so they can deny being biased, make broad statements of their principles only to turn around and say the exact opposite when its convenient. They always have to be on "the right side of history"

My favorite example is on a Reddit thread about Rittenhouse getting into a school fight, "Not only did he hit a WOMAN but he HIT HER FROM BEHIND. It doesn't matter if he was defending his little sister, YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER NEVER HIT SOMEONE FROM BEHIND, its literally impossible to be self defense." someone replied, "So then the guy who hit him in the back of the head with a skateboard deserved it too?" and they, completely unaware of their hypocrisy, 'UGH NO DUDE. Imagine thinking you aren't allowed to save everyone from a mass shooter because you'd have to hit him from behind to do it. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DEFEND OTHERS"

two contradicting principles to stand on, but they have to talk like that because they know how bad it would sound to say, "Yeah he defended himself but I disagree so I think he should go to jail." They're lying to themselves basically.
