While it has gotten that bad, too...it's largely soft manipulations in methodology that absolutely would garner the result they are looking for, or outright awful conclusions that do not match well with the data presented.
I saw this often in the social sciences back in the late 00s when I was in college. When I would say anything about it, it would be met with some sort of "while you are technically correct, we feel the conclusion fits well with prior studies".
And I'm like....yeah, but the conclusion is supposed to reflect the current study...wtf.
It's interesting how black people committing more crime can be turned into "black people are discriminated against by the justice system and police". They both could be right based on how you frame the data.
Yeah it's a minority of black people doing most of black crime, but black criminals commit 50% of the murders. I would never take that to say that all black people are bad, but it is an interesting statistic considering the relative population size.
