Because when a Native American presents me their I.D, they tell me what tribe it is issued out of. It's been a good 30 years, since I've heard a Native American self identify as "Indian."
Either Choctaw or local Cleveland residents can be defined as 'Native'. Because if you are born and raised someplace, you are a native.
They may prefer Indian for their baseball team out of respect for local heritage, but India is it's own country that has nothing to do with America, or native Americans.
