At a certain point, there is a lot of ticket punching, glad handing, and brown nosing to promote in the officer ranks, ESPECIALLY for flag ranks. That's not to say there aren't solid generals and admirals, but the politics is a huge factor in the military losing quality, competent leaders. A lot of what's left are the dregs: company men, yes men, woke politics embracing, non-warriors. They don't care about making our forces more capable or better prepared/equipped; they're only interested in padding their fitness report, job titles, useless awards, and promoting.
