I read most every available personal account of the Pandemic of 1918 and almost all of them were unaware anything was going on in the world until their own neighborhoods got hit with the sickness.
If that were the case today, would anyone think there was a pandemic?
We wouldn't in either of the counties I've lived in during this supposed pandemic. We even had this sickness and would not have thought anything like that.
