Having worked in research and as a clinician for 25 years, people are so conditioned to not invest in one of the most valuable and precious things they possess - their own bodies. They are willing to shell out for a house, a car, a new phone, etc, but when it comes to their health, whether medical or dental, they only want what insurance covers. Many providers tried to ax the system after the ACA and go to subscriber based practice, but is has been difficult. Now many of us are threatened by our state licensing boards to knuckle under. I am sure there are providers in your area that practice outside of the control of insurance based medicine. If we are going to change this the public needs to vote with their feet and their dollars.
