The bible is eternally relevant. The LORD'S words are meant to be meditated on. Of course I'm aware of not making the words about 'you', but about Jesus.
I'm not even saying that. I'm saying you should try to reading it like any other book and stop trying to make it a religious spiritual experience that you meditate on.
There's only 13 books written to us for instruction today, the rest of the book is Israel's history and Israel's future. Trying to live your life on what God told Israel is going to be really confusing.
If you don't have a basic understanding of who is writing, who they're writing to and when, you going to make a mess of that book. Most people today throw everything in the bible in a blender, mix it up and are completely confused about what the words are saying once it's poured out.
If something confuses me in the Bible I stop and ask myself why it's confusing. Like are we supposed to sell all we own and give it to the poor like Jesus instructed the young rich man? You could uncover a lot if you dig and find the answer to that.
