I totally get it. A friend of mine and I have talked about this and at one point, I finally told her, you have to find your inner Neo. She had not seen The Matrix (!?!), so I explained the scene where he begins to believe. I made her watch it and she understood.

So now if either of us gets frustrated, we remind each other to simply hold your hand up to the ammo they are throwing and simply say "No".
