He will have to answer for that too. It is a symptom of despair too…

People like your friend need prayer. We cannot reach them only our creator can. He made them just as he made us. He loves them just as he loves us. If we love our creator we should love those he created. Even and especially when they do not love themselves.

This type of behavior will not last and those that live this way are not long for this life. Pray for him while there is time. It is ultimately his choice what he does just as it ours. When the time comes if he has not turned from this path you will not regret your prayers for him.
