Fortunately my wife has not encountered mandatory vaccines at her hospital. They have a tough time keeping employees as it is so it seems absurd that they would consider such a policy - it would be even harder to keep staff. I don't see it happening, but who can say what the future holds.

Same to you. This is nonsense and clearly even health care workers are hesitant to take experimental medicine. With good cause. Sad these people take the good name of science, tarnishing it by dragging it through the mud on their crusade.
She said her CEO sent out some BS email saying basically they don't want employees that won't do the greater good for the community. Pissed her off completely.

But you're partly wrong. While this petition may not be directly effective in changing the hospital's policy, it can work in raising general public awareness and helping the employees gain courage by realizing that they are not alone in their feelings and decision to resist the mandate.

That is literally torture. The really sad thing is most people really dont notice these things with all that is going on these days. Your friend and all people who have been put on solitary confinement will be included in my nightly prayer. The last years of your life should be spent with loved ones, not isolated. What kind of a life is that!? My heart breaks for those people like your friend. I hope you get to see your dear friend again.
