History in Michigan. AF landing on a highway.

The Air Force is going to land 6 planes on a highway here in Michigan. Good "training" exercises for the Go teams.

At Alpena the US Canadian border is about 50 miles away in the middle of Lake Huron. Michigan has three border crossing with Canada: Detroit, Port Huron and Sault Ste. Marie. Each is at least 100 miles away from Alpena and each crosses water. Michigan and Canada do not have a land border at all.

Why the fuck is landing on a highway 100 miles from Canada a big deal when Selfridge AFB on Lake St Clair and 50 other bases are along the border?

I didnt get the connection to Canada. Because it has no connection to Canada.
