Well, I read she punched the horse, but not that she punched it out. Either way, that's animal abuse. She was just taking out her anger on the horse (and the poor horse was probably thinking the horse version of WTF). People who interact with animals as a means of stroking their own ego have no business associating with animals, and I'd say she's one of those.
I stand corrected, I was thinking about "Blazing Saddles"(howls)... The riders where assigned their mounts in a blind draw. so this animal was not one of the German team's equines. From what I could gather, the horse was simply overwhelmed at the situation and did not deserve the treatment that it received....
I agree that the horses were overwhelmed and, from what I could gather reading about the number of horses who refused jumps and/or bucked, it seemed to me that the horses were not properly trained for this sort of event. I got the impression these were all local horses, so being sent into a situation they were not properly trained for is on the people who supplied the horses, and that's animal abuse, too.
Valid observations coupled with absolute truth equals reality....
Punch even is a pretty exaggerated description given the video
The article I read didn't include the video, but horses are extremely sensitive. They'll completely alter their direction or come to a dead stop with just a slight shift of the rider's seat bones, and what doesn't look like a punch to you would feel like a major assault to the horse. In fact, what the coach did WAS an assault on the horse because it was simply a factor of the coach's emotional state, and the poor horse was given the brunt of that.
They are, but I recommend you watch the video and make your own judgements than just to go by assumption. I think you're imagining something different in your head.
