People will use historical examples to illustrate principles, morals or ideas, but will reject contemporary possibilities for something like that historical source happening again.
Here is an example: I have heard those who will use Churchill as a historical case of someone who stood consistently in the face of adversity, made difficult decisions, rallied those who were fearful or wavering and overcame the foe in a daunting conflict. BUT, the very people who may use Churchill as an example (for whatever they are trying to illustrate) will reject the possibility that overcoming adversity, successfully making difficult decisions, and rallying not only can be done but should be done. People use the historical example without referencing the historical naysayers and quitters of the day.. as if they did not exist.
I am looking for a term or word that summarizes what was just described. I can't find one so I am likely not searching in a way that will provide what I want; or perhaps a new term needs coined for modern usage.
Stay steady on today, Thanks,
