Because he is a whistleblower, simple as that. We should stand up for any and all whistleblowers, because it is they who dare speak truth to power and inform us of wrongdoings, heinous crimes, crimes against humanity committed by our governments that would otherwise remain hidden. They know they will either be imprisoned, in exile for the rest of their lives or killed, but they still do it. Because it's the right thing to do. We don't care about Assange enough - whether you like him or not - he is a political prisoner because he dared to speak up. It's about standing up for those who stood up for us.
