"Some people" can find other jobs. There are plenty of job openings. If they aren't great in your area, move to another area. That's what people have had to do in the past.

I've never had a problem getting a job. If I needed to go back to work, I could go out tomorrow and be on a payroll somewhere in a matter of hours. I've done it in the past, and there are hundreds of times more openings now than back when I was working. For my last job, I looked at job listings, picked one, got sent for an interview, and was on the clock the same day, an hour after I walked in the door.

There are excuses, but they aren't good ones.
