Judenrat. I'm reading Eichmann in Jerusalem by Hannah Arendt and the introduction says that she set New York Jewry on fire with her book, partly because she assigned blame to the Judenrat. Their responsibility for deaths is one of the things conveniently hidden in post WWII history.
I contemplated that recently. Instead of organizing a resistance, it was more like: "Well, I can trade this person for that person." Useless.
I mean, maybe I'm expecting too much. Some places get heroes and some places don't.
