They likely have the false impression that the west is the land of the free. Democracies or Republics where citizens vote for their leaders and their foreign policies. Logically, the decision to invade their homeland is just an extension of the desires of the average westerner. Therefore they hate us.

In reality we have no control of our governments and no influence over their foreign policies. The voting is rigged and the population is propagandized.
